Pleasantly lost in paper

The third experience I want to share is one for the books. I have never been part of a task that entailed such a dynamic. No disrespect to our client, as she was very sweet, very accommodating, and very pleasant to be around, de-cluttering her home opened my eyes even more to the profession I wanted to get into. There is no such thing as a cookie cutter day in the life of a professional organizer. Each different client coming together is like looking through the end of a kaleidoscope; each so different and unique in their own way coming together offering business to people like my boss who care about the cause and want to give them a better life.

This client would not necessarily be considered a hoarder but definitely has hoarding tendencies. The title of this blog stems from the amount of paper scattered throughout this clients home. Most of our later days were spent organizing the excessive paper into piles for our client to go through and categorize. The rest of the house, while still in bad shape, required typical organization ranging from rearranging of supplies to items that were obviously trash. Our time with this specific client was cut short and we were not able to finish the entire house. Something to remember with hoarders, or those with hoarding tendencies, is that they live in fear of their items being thrown out or replaced. They have extreme anxiety when it comes to changing their homes and while this client hired my boss to help her clear the house so she could move, the change was too much. Her anxiety became overwhelming and we were forced to say goodbye until she was ready to continue the journey to a clutter free home.
